Impact of Global Digital Reforms on Work Efficiency Enhancement in the Indian Banking System

Abstract In The Emerging Phase of the 1980s, within the Indian banking system, the need to computerize operations was prioritized to provide better customer service, securely maintain records and other documents, and operate an efficient Management Information System (MIS). Converting data into a digital or e-format is called digitalization. Implementing digitalization in banking enables improvements in the quality of services offered to customers, providing them with comfort and convenience while helping to save time, costs, and energy. Digitalization minimizes the likelihood of errors to almost zero, thereby enhancing customer trust and reliability. By leveraging digitalization to rethink their operations, banks can enhance their performance in the eyes of their customers and remain competitive in the market. In the current landscape, the introduction of the Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) regulations and open banking has empowered customers, allowing them to understand banking operations better and be aware of their rights. Banks should share information about customers' financial data and spending habits with authorized third parties, provided customers are comfortable with it. Since the advent of the millennial generation in recent decades, banks have encountered customer behaviors they had never even imagined—a demographic that has now become a massive consumer base for financial products. With the advent of smartphones, laptops, public Wi-Fi, and high-speed internet facilities in the market, customer expectations regarding the banking sector are constantly rising worldwide. Operating in the digital world has significantly reduced errors in tasks, enabling customers to carry out their banking activities with convenience. While digital banking reduces the risk of human error, it increases the likelihood of cyberattacks; therefore, banks must remain actively vigilant and prepared to counter such threats.

Converting data into a digital or e-format is called digitalization.
