Smart and sustainable rural development: challenges, opportunities and policy implications for inclusive growth in India

Abstract Smart and sustainable rural development is essential for achieving inclusive growth in India. Rapid technological changes, climate change, environmental challenges, and socio-economic inequalities have created a need for innovative rural development models. This study examines the challenges, opportunities, and policy implications of smart rural development in India. It focuses on digital technology, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, rural entrepreneurship, e-governance, and community participation. The study is based on secondary data from government reports, research studies, and policy documents. The findings indicate that technology, sustainable practices, and effective governance can significantly improve rural livelihoods and quality of life. The study concludes that integrated policies, innovation, community participation, and institutional support are essential for inclusive and sustainable rural transformation in India.
