Comparison Between the Effect of Ultrasound-Guided Rectus Sheath Block and Ultrasound-Guided Transversus Abdominis Plane Block on Postoperative Analgesia in Patients Undergoing Paraumbilical Hernia Repair Under General Anesthesia
BACKGROUND: Paraumbilical hernia repair surgeries are associated with substantial postoperative pain. Ultrasound-guided Rectus sheath block and Transversus abdominis plane block are commonly used to reduce postoperative requirement for narcotics . OBJECTIVE: For stud the efficacy of US-guided Rectus sheath block versus US-guided Transversus abdominis plane block for postoperative pain . PATIENTS AND METHOD: . 40 Iraqi patients were scheduled for elective paraumbilical hernia repair under general anesthesia (GA) .Patients were divided in to two groups: Group A (20) patients received bilateral ultrasound-guided rectus sheath block (RSB), Group B (20) patients received bilateral ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis plane block (TAPB). VAS score is a measure of pain and pulse rate and blood pressure as reflection of pain were the parameter studies are recorded at admission, at recovery, 1hr,4hr,8hr after surgery.Brake in pain was treated using meperidine amp 1mg/kg I.V. and the number of patients required meperidine of both groups was recorded and analyzed. RESULTS: There was no statistically significant differences in demographic data between group (A) and group (B). We found no statistically significant differences between group (A) and group (B) regarding visual pain score, pulse rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate at preoperatively, at recovery, 1h postoperatively, 4h postoperatively and 8h postoperatively. CONCLUSION: Both ultrasound guided rectus sheath block and transversus abdominis plane block are equally effective in prevention of postoperative pain in patients have paraumbilical hernia repair surgeries under general anesthesia .
