Rapid Formation of Amino Acid‐Based Adhesives in Eutectic Solvents for Preparing Multifunctional Bio‐Composite Material
In the field of wood-based composites, while traditional resins such as urea-formaldehyde and phenolic resins feature mature manufacturing processes, concerns over formaldehyde emissions and sustainability continue to drive the development of formaldehyde-free, low-VOC, and renewable adhesives. In recent years, amino acid-based biomass adhesive systems have garnered attention due to their unique structures and biobased feedstocks. However, they still face challenges such as insufficient wetting and mechanical properties, poor mold resistance, and environmental concerns. To address such challenges, this paper proposes a rapid construction strategy for eutectic solvents (ES)-mediated amino acid-based green adhesives. Four amino acid-based adhesives were prepared by polymerization with vanillin in its green ES with organic superbase, and each adhesive exhibited high dry bonding strength as adhesives, with the highest reaching 4.82 MPa (dry shear strength). Additionally, we innovatively incorporate discarded rose branches as a woody filler to develop a biomass composite material exhibiting outstanding mechanical properties, thermal insulation, mold resistance, and biodegradability. It provides a new technical approach for the high-value utilization of horticultural waste and the preparation of functional green boards.
