El estatuto del lugar como instrumento para la identificación y preservación del patrimonio territorial en la costa norte peruana

The article examines the statute of place as a methodological tool for identifying and preserving territorial heritage on Peru’s northern coast, focusing on Lambayeque. Faced with threats such as uncontrolled urbanisation and agro-industrial expansion, a territorialist approach is proposed, recognising the territory as a dynamic system in which material and immaterial values converge. Through a methodology combining literature review and case studies, the research explores how the statute of place enables the interpretation of territorial identity and the sustainable regulation of transformation processes. Four key aspects are addressed: the relationship between heritage and territorialisation, the statute of place as a regulatory tool, citizen participation in territorial management, and examples from Lambayeque illustrating these processes. The study concludes that integrating the statute of place into territorial planning enhances heritage sustainability, reinforces social cohesion and supports development models based on local identity. This approach offers an alternative for addressing similar challenges in other heritage-rich territories.
