Arquitectura y escenografía: Estética del espacio escénico
Set design, which purpose is to generate spaces for theatrical performances, is a discipline linked to architecture. Although different authors have developed projects in this field throughout history, the truth is that today's architects are generally far removed from it. For this reason, this paper examines theatrical plastic art's central concepts, paying particular attention to aesthetics concerning the scenic space. Four cases are critically analysed to transversally examine the profile of the architect-scenographer and evaluate the stylistic aesthetic strategy of each of the proposals. Specifically, we study stagings designed by Gae Aulenti, João Mendes Ribeiro, Concha Fernández Montesinos and Juan Ruesga, whose works are part of the theatrical panorama of the last century. The research will provide a deeper understanding of the value of aesthetics in stage design and how it influences communication between the creative team and the audience.
