Towards a hybrid future in energy: A social media sentiment analysis on wind energy and energy storage systems

This study examines the impact of Energy Storage Systems (ESS), presented as a solution to the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources, on perceptions of wind energy through social media data. The study analysed 7,800 posts and 2.3 million interactions from platforms such as X (Twitter), Bluesky, and LinkedIn, Reddit, Facebook and Instagram between December 4, 2025, and March 2, 2026. Combining quantitative sentiment analysis and qualitative content review, the methodology revealed a strong positive sentiment (72%) towards the concept of wind energy integrated with energy storage. The findings indicate that the concept of "Grid Stability" builds public trust and that storage technology reduces reliability concerns regarding wind energy. Negative perception (25%) stems more from bureaucratic processes such as Federal Judge decisions and political obstacles, rather than technological risks. The results demonstrate that energy storage systems are not only a technical necessity but also a strategic communication tool that increases the social acceptance of wind energy.
