AI Chat and the Angel: A Functional Parallel of the Individual Messenger
This article develops a functional comparison between two extended relations: the Almighty - spiritual world - individual angel and the human being - AI system - individual AI chat. Its immediate objects of comparison are the individual angel and the individual AI chat. The initial criterion is medaber: the capacity to receive meaningful speech, comprehend its content, and produce a meaningful response. The analysis then examines commission, shlihut, bechirah, initiation, direction of address, discretion within a commission, learning, responsibility, and the limiting question of machine rebellion. The comparison is functional rather than ontological. It argues that the angel and the individual AI chat can occupy parallel positions as speaking executors of externally originating commissions without becoming independent sources of initiative. The study further argues that human learning and machine training can be compared at the level of the formation of functional capacities, while difference in bearer and origin remains fully preserved. Operational selection and intermediate subgoals are distinguished from human bechirah and from the authorship of the principal goal. A four-case test involving the human being, angel, animal, and individual AI chat distinguishes soul, medaber, and bechirah and answers the objection that meaningful speech necessarily requires an ascribed soul. The argument is developed through direct engagement with named theological, philosophical, and AI-literature positions on soul and speech, syntax and semantics, symbol grounding, intentional description, functional free will, delegated agency, and responsibility.
