Cyperus esculentus, a little-known alien species in the flora of Bulgaria
Cyperus esculentus was erroneously reported for the Bulgarian flora about a century ago. In 2012, it was recorded as a new non-native species for Bulgaria. Based on revised herbarium material and field observations, this study confirms its pre-sence in the country since 2000 and clarifies its delimitation from the taxa involved in earlier misidentifications. The paper presents data on the diagnostic characters, habitat preferences, current distribution, genome size (1C = 0.26 pg), and alien status of C. esculentus in Bulgaria.
