An undescribed but well-known species of Enterolobium (Leguminosae) from eastern Brazil

Summary Through an analysis of the illustrations of Leguminosae from Florae Fluminensis and a comparison with herbarium specimens, this study demonstrates that the species previously treated as Enterolobium monjollo is in fact a distinct, undescribed species, and does not correspond to Vellozo’s Mimosa monjollo . Although the name E. monjollo has a long history of use, beginning with Martius, the morphological and geographical evidence indicate that it has been misapplied. We therefore describe here, as new to science, the species historically treated as E. monjollo by Martius, naming it Enterolobium martianum .
