Investigation of the Relationship Between Physical Activity, Screen Addiction and Peer Relationship in Secondary School Students

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between physical activity, screen addiction, and peer relationships in secondary school students. The research was con-ducted using a relational screening model. A total of 516 students participated (258 girls, 50%, mean age=12.34±0.92; 258 boys, 50%, mean age=12.38±0.98). The Physical Activity Questionnaire, the Peer Relationships Scale for Adolescents, the Multiple Screen Ad-diction Scale, and a Personal Information Form were used. Normality was confirmed through skewness and kurtosis values within ±1.5. Differences by gender were analyzed using independent samples T-Test; income and education status differences were ana-lyzed using One-Way ANOVA with Post-Hoc Tukey test. Pearson correlation analysis was used to determine relationships between variables. Confirmatory Factor Analysis confirmed the scales' validity for secondary school students. Significant differences in physical activity were found by gender, income, and parental education levels. Multiple screen addiction did not differ by gender, income, or father's education level, but dif-fered by mother's education level. Peer relationship scores differed by gender and in-come, but not by parental education. A weak positive relationship was found between physical activity and peer relationships (r=.139), and a weak negative relationship be-tween screen addiction and peer relationships (r=−.101). No significant relationship was found between physical activity and screen addiction. These results suggest that the interaction between variables is at a low level.
