Enhancing Children’s Artistic Skills through AI-Generated Visual Feedback

This study aims to examine the impact of artificial intelligence (AI)–assisted video-creation process on the drawing skills that children employ when visualizing their imaginative narratives. In the study, the transformation of children’s drawings into animations via SORA, a video generation tool developed by OpenAI, and the reflections of the visual feedback provided by this process on students’ drawing productions were evaluated. Conducted with primary school students, the study employed an exploratory design integrating qualitative and quantitative methods. The process involved three stages: free drawing, viewing AI-generated videos of these drawings, and producing a second set of drawings. Student works were assessed with a rubric, whereas interviews and observations provided insights into their experiences. Findings indicate that AI-generated visual feedback contributed positively to students’ drawing skills, leading to more detailed and intentional depictions. Results suggest that personalized AI-assisted experiences can enhance students’ ability and motivation to represent objects more accurately.
