DEVELOPMENT OF A BLOCKCHAIN-BASED DOCUMENT VERIFICATION SYSTEM FOR SECURE AND TAMPER-RESISTANT ACADEMIC RECORDS

This study proposes a blockchain-based academic document verification system that secures and validates records such as diplomas, certificates, and transcripts. Authorized school personnel register official documents by generating a unique SHA-256 cryptographic hash, which is recorded on the blockchain as an immutable reference, while the actual document may be stored through decentralized storage such as IPFS. Employers, institutions, and other authorized verifiers can then upload a document or scan its QR code, allowing the system to compare its newly generated hash with the registered blockchain hash; a match indicates that the document is authentic and unchanged, while a mismatch suggests that it may be altered or invalid. The system aims to make academic-record verification faster, more accurate, secure, tamper-resistant, and less dependent on manual confirmation from schools.
