Trump Tariffs, Global Economic Policy Uncertainty, and Growth in Major Asian Economies
This study examines how Trump-era U.S. tariffs amplified global economic policy uncertainty (GEPU) and, in turn, reduced economic growth in major Asian economies. By interacting global EPU with country-level exposure to U.S. trade, the analysis captures cross-country differences in vulnerability to externally generated uncertainty. Using fixed-effects panel models with Driscoll–Kraay standard errors and annual data spanning 1997–2024, the results show that exposure to global uncertainty is a key transmission channel through which trade shocks affect domestic growth.
