Chiroptical Imaging of Enantiomeric DNA Crystals
ABSTRACT The optical activity of enantiomorphous self‐assembled 3D DNA crystals was imaged. X‐ray structures of crystals assembled from L ‐ and D ‐nucleotides in the chiral space groups P 4 1 and P 4 3 , respectively, to 2.1–2.3 Å resolution, were analyzed using complete polarimetry to map circular birefringence. The crystals revealed optical activities of equal magnitude, but opposite sign as required by crystallographic symmetry. These results establish a solid‐state platform for quantitatively linking molecular chirality, crystal symmetry, and spatially resolved optical response.
