When Justifiers Transmit
Abstract What is it that is transmitted across known entailment from justified premises? My main aim in this paper is to clarify and defend the unpopular view that transmission of justification should be conceived as transmission of a justifier, and the search for cases in which transmission of justification fails should focus its energy on cases in which justifiers fail to be transmitted. The idea will take some time to develop, and along the way I will argue inter alia against Crispin Wright’s well-known account that it is a subtle kind of epistemic circularity that prevents some deductive arguments from transmitting the justification of their premises to their conclusions.
