Success of pulpotomy using biodentine on mature molars with irreversible pulpitis: a retrospective study with 12–48 months’ follow-up
This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the treatment outcomes and survival rates of coronal pulpotomy (CP) performed with Biodentine (BD) in mature molars diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis (IP) over a 12–48-month follow-up period, and to investigate the relationship between these outcomes and potential influencing factors (type of restoration, tooth location, age, gender, presence/absence of percussion prior to treatment). In this study, the records of 204 teeth from 203 patients (aged 9–15 years), diagnosed with IP in a mature molar and treated with CP using BD by three different dentists between 2020 and 2025, were reviewed. 118 teeth were excluded from the study, and 86 teeth from 86 patients were included. Firth’s penalized Cox proportional hazards regression was used to assess potential factors associated with treatment survival. The overall success rate was 89.5%. Composite resin restorations may be associated with a higher risk of treatment failure than SSCs, whereas increasing age may be related to a lower risk of treatment failure. Pulpotomy treatment with BD may be considered an effective treatment for children with mature molars diagnosed with IP.
