Application and Research Progress of Chinese Herbal Mouthwash in Adjuvant Treatment of Periodontitis

With the continuous advancement of medical research, Chinese herbal medicines have attracted growing attention in the adjuvant treatment of periodontitis, forming an important research field integrating traditional medicine and modern medicine. Periodontitis is a common oral disease with complex pathogenic mechanisms, and conventional therapeutic methods present limited efficacy, which creates an urgent demand for effective adjuvant interventions. As a classic therapeutic form derived from traditional medicine, Chinese herbal mouthwash contains unique bioactive components and exerts favorable pharmacological effects, showing great application potential in anti-inflammation, detumescence, and periodontal tissue repair. This paper systematically reviews recent research on the clinical application of Chinese herbal mouthwash for periodontitis, analyzes its action mechanisms, clinical efficacy, and application prospects, and discusses existing research deficiencies and future research directions, so as to provide a theoretical basis and clinical references for routine dental practice.
