Embracing Energy Infrastructure Siting Opportunities: Part II

Part I of this Smart Siting series, published in the July 2026 issue of Climate and Energy, showed that a robust site selection methodology is an early indicator of whether new electric grid infrastructure can be delivered on time and at a reasonable cost. 1 Key to successful siting is testing grid feasibility, environmental constraints, regulatory pathways, and community acceptance before capital is committed. The overarching goal is to increase the probability that energy resources will reach commercial operation through traditional permitting approaches.

Abstract

Part I of this Smart Siting series, published in the July 2026 issue of Climate and Energy, showed that a robust site selection methodology is an early indicator of whether new electric grid infrastructure can be delivered on time and at a reasonable cost. 1 Key to successful siting is testing grid feasibility, environmental constraints, regulatory pathways, and community acceptance before capital is committed. The overarching goal is to increase the probability that energy resources will reach commercial operation through traditional permitting approaches.
