Ancestral karyotype construction and chromosome fusion in Poaceae
Reconstruction of the ancestral grass karyotype using two new chromosome-level genomes and 19 published assemblies shows that the ancestral Poaceae karyotype had 12 protochromosomes (x = 12), not 11, and that 48 chromosome fusions serve as reliable phylogenetic markers, clarifying grass chromosomal evolution.
