OCIMUM SANCTUM (HOLY BASIL): A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF ITS IMMUNOMODULATORY AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY PROPERTIES

Plants have played an important role in human healthcare and traditional medicine for thousands of years. Ocimum Sanctum is one of them. Ocimum Sanctum contains many active phytoconstituents like; Eugenol, Rosmarinic acid, Ursolic acid, Linalool and Epigenin. Ocimum Sanctum demonstrates remarkable potential in antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and immunomodulatory. The immunomodulatory properties of tulsi have enhanced the body’s natural defense mechanisms, while its anti-inflammatory properties may aid in reducing inflammation-associated disorders. These biological properties make tulsi a valuable natural remedy for maintaining health and preventing disease. Holy basil represents a promising natural resource for the development of herbal medicines and nutraceutical products. Holy basil also holds a supreme place in the ancient Vedic scriptures and integrated into daily life by Hindus through religious worship. Holy Basil also used to treat skin disease like; acne, pimples, rashes, itching, etc. Holy basil has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for more than 3000 years. Overall, the growing scientific evidence supporting the therapeutic potential of Tulsi highlights its importance as a valuable natural resource for future healthcare applications.
