First-Time Voters And Indian Democracy: Political Attitude And Voting Behaviour Among Youth
Abstract Youth constitute an important and increasingly influential section of the Indian electorate. The participation of first-time voters is particularly significant because their early political experiences can shape their future engagement with democracy. This study examines the political attitudes and voting behaviour of first-time voters in India, with particular attention to their level of political awareness, electoral participation, and the factors that influence their voting decisions. The study explores the role of political parties, candidates, family, education, media, social media, and contemporary political issues in shaping the preferences of young voters. It also seeks to understand the expectations of youth from Indian democracy and their perceptions of political institutions. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach and may use primary data collected through a structured questionnaire, supported by relevant secondary sources. The research aims to contribute to a better understanding of youth participation and the changing nature of electoral politics in contemporary India.
