Mild Cognitive Impairment and Dance Movement Therapy: A Scoping Review

Abstract This scoping review examines dance movement therapy (DMT) interventions for individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), including their caregivers/family members. The review was registered on the Open Science Framework (OSF) on 26 July 2025. A search across MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Scopus from July 2025 to March 2026 identified 113 relevant records. Only studies with participants living with MCI and their family members, aged 85 or younger, published after 2010 and included DMT as interventions were selected. The results were reported and presented in PRISMA flow diagrams. No studies met the inclusion criteria for this scoping review, despite an extensive search of various databases and other sources. Future research should prioritise the development and evaluation of DMT interventions specifically designed for people with MCI and their caregivers, as this population may have unique therapeutic needs and relational dynamics.
