An evolutionary perspective on arts and culture
Nature and culture are often diametrically opposed. This article explores nature, culture, and art from an evolutionary perspective and explains how they interrelate. An evolutionary analysis of art and artistic practices—known as “evolutionary aesthetics”—has been around for some time, but what does it mean to apply such an evolutionary understanding to arts management and cultural policy? What new perspectives are emerging, and what does this mean for work in the cultural field?
