Hidden among the trees: new information on Hamataliwa rufocaligata Simon, 1898 (Araneae, Oxyopidae) from Southern Africa
Hamataliwa rufocaligata is an African endemic described by Simon (1898) from Djibouti. Although the species is presentlyknown only from one sex, it has a wide geographical range. It is recognised by the abdomen, which has a raised vertical cylindrical tubercle, with an obtuse apex with setae and scale clusters. It is a bark dweller, and the abdominal tubercle resembles pieces of bark. The species name rufocaligata means “red-booted” or “having reddish leggings/tarsi.” In life, the red legs are distinct, and when moving, it almost looks as if it is flashing its legs as a warning. The general morphology of the species is described from photographs of living specimens with notes on their behaviour, distribution and conservation
