Detection of Changes in Land Use and Land Cover in Kasheli Creek Using Google Earth Images.
Abstract Land is an essential natural resource that humans utilize for various purposes, resulting in numerous changes. Detecting changes in land use and land cover is crucial for studying the utilization, conservation, and sustainable management of resources. This study aims to identify changes in land use and land cover in the Kasheli Creek region using Google Earth images of 2013 and 2023.The images were classified into nine categories of land use, revealing significant changes over the decade. Agriculture, mangrove, and open land decreased by 0.74%, 0.19%, and 9.98%, respectively. In contrast, settlement, vegetation other than mangroves, and shrimp farming increased by 0.25%, 9.81%, and 0.47%, respectively. Notably, roads, river inlet, and intertidal zone remained unchanged. This study provides valuable insights into the dynamics of land use and land cover changes in the Kasheli Creek region, highlighting the need for sustainable resource management practices. The findings have important implications for conservation, policy-making, and future research.
