Development of Linkages of NANDA International Diagnoses—Nursing Outcomes Classification — Nursing Interventions Classification for People Living with HIV Over 50

Purpose The purpose of this study was to develop linkages between NANDA International I nursing diagnoses, Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC) outcomes, and Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) interventions for people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) aged over 50. Methods Data accrued from 16 experienced nurses specializing in HIV/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) care who evaluated the relevance of 45 NANDA-I nursing diagnoses, 80 NOC outcomes, and 82 NIC interventions specific to older adults living with HIV. A total of 6 nursing experts, including NOC and NIC editors, reviewed and finalized the linkages through consensus. Findings Sixteen core NANDA-I, NOC, and NIC linkages emerged. A total of 80 NOC outcomes were identified to guide nursing care based on NANDA-I diagnoses, and 82 NIC interventions were identified as suggested interventions. Conclusions The validated NNN linkages provide a structured, evidence-based framework for nursing care planning for older adults living with HIV by integrating psychosocial and physiological health needs. They also have the potential to strengthen nurses’ understanding of the nursing process, facilitate interdisciplinary communication, and address key nursing priorities across the continuum of care. Implications for Nursing Practice Incorporation of the expert-consensus validated linkages into practice would enhance assessment, care planning, interventions, and outcomes for older people living with HIV. Applying these linkages can improve patient safety, promote functional independence, and address psychosocial factors, ultimately enhancing health outcomes and quality of life for older adults living with HIV.
