A bibliometric review of research trends in the Black-tailed Gull ( Larus crassirostris ) using text mining and co-occurrence word analysis

Research trend analysis provides a quantitative framework for identifying dominant themes and temporal shifts in scientific attention.Text mining and co-occurrence word analysis are useful tools for extracting trends from bibliographic text.Although the Black-tailed Gull (Larus crassirostris) has been studied across various ecological topics, the overall structure and temporal changes of its research remain unclear. This study aimed to analyze overall trends and temporal shifts in research topics on the Black-tailed Gull.Bibliographic information was collected from the Web of Science.A total of 105 articles were identified, and text mining and co-occurrence analyses were conducted using VOSviewer.Temporal topic composition and Pielou's evenness were also examined. The annual number of articles showed a significant increasing trend.Co-occurrence analysis retained 59 words and identified four thematic clusters: reproductive ecology and behavior, pollution and bioaccumulation, diet and stable isotope ecology, and habitat use and movement ecology.Research topics were more evenly distributed in the 2010s and 2020s than in the 2000s.These findings provide a quantitative basis for identifying research gaps and suggest the need for future studies on ecological interactions between Black-tailed Gulls and human activities, disease ecology, and ecological effects of offshore development.
