Socio-Economic Inequalities and Educational Opportunities among Female Undergraduate Students: Emerging Concerns and challenges

Education plays an important part in the overall development, personal progress, and future opportunitiesof students; however, differences in socio-economic backgrounds can lead to unequal access to educationalopportunities. Understanding socio-economic inequalities is particularly important in the context of femaleundergraduate students, as family economic conditions, parents’ educational and occupational backgrounds, availability of educational resources, and financial support may influence their educational experiences. The study aims to examine the connection between socio-economic inequalities and educationalopportunities among female undergraduate students and to identify the emerging concerns and challengesassociated with these inequalities. The research is secondary data-based and uses relevant research articles, books, reports, policy documents, and other scholarly sources to develop a complete understanding of theissue. The available literature is critically examined and analyzed thematically to explore the differentdimensions of socio-economic inequalities and their influence on educational opportunities. The findingsindicate that socio-economic conditions can create differences in students’ access to educational resources, learning facilities, digital technologies, academic support, career guidance, and skill-developmentopportunities. Financial constraints, the digital divide, unequal availability of learning resources, andlimited academic support emerge as significant concerns. Female undergraduate students fromdisadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds may face greater difficulties in accessing and benefiting fromavailable educational opportunities. Overall, reducing socio-economic barriers is essential for ensuringequitable educational opportunities. Institutional measures such as scholarships, digital facilities, mentoring, academic support, and career guidance, along with inclusive educational policies, can contribute to reducingsocio-economic inequalities and promoting accessible, equitable, and meaningful educational opportunitiesfor female undergraduate students.
