WPL-02E: The I-Usted Relationship in Dialogue with Recognition Theory – Hegel, Honneth, Ricœur, and the Intercultural Perspective (V4.0)

It places the I-Usted relationship in dialogue with seven philosophical traditions of recognition theory – Hegel, Honneth, Ricœur, Ubuntu, Buddhist ethics, Confucianism, and Derrida – and demonstrates that non-reciprocal recognition is a trans-cultural category of ethical acknowledgment. The document applies the I-Usted relationship to six clinical contexts (dementia, vegetative state, profound intellectual disability, terminal illness, severe psychiatric disorders with communicative incapacity, and early childhood) and shows that it is the only appropriate ethical stance toward subjects who cannot respond. The findings are grounded in the case of Yenifer/Yenny (structural dissociation type 2) and serve as a philosophical foundation for the Lighthouse Strategy. The findings apply to both models (type 2α and type 2β) unless stated otherwise.
