TOPICAL BACTERIAL LYSATES IN CHILDREN WITH ADENOID HYPERTROPHY AND CHRONIC ADENOIDITIS

Adenoid hypertrophy and chronic adenoiditis are common disorders in childhood and may contribute to persistent nasal obstruction, recurrent respiratory infections, sleep-disordered breathing, and middle-ear disease. This study evaluated the effectiveness of topical bacterial lysates as an adjunct to standard therapy in children with adenoid hypertrophy and/or exacerbation of chronic adenoiditis during medical rehabilitation. Fifty-seven children aged 3-15 years were divided into an intervention group (n=34), which received standard therapy plus intranasal IRS-19 for one month, and a control group (n=23), which received standard therapy alone. Clinical symptoms, anterior rhinoscopy findings, and nasopharyngeal microbiological parameters were assessed. By day 10, the intervention group showed improvement in nasal obstruction and nasal discharge, together with favorable changes in adenoid size. The overall detection of pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms decreased by 75.6% in the intervention group compared with 41.4% in controls. During the three-month follow-up, five exacerbations of chronic adenoiditis were recorded in the intervention group versus thirteen in the control group. These findings indicate that inclusion of a topical bacterial lysate in multimodal treatment may improve clinical outcomes, reduce exacerbation frequency, and favorably influence the nasopharyngeal microbiota in affected children.
