Central Texas ASR and Dam‐Reservoir Alternatives Evaluated through Life Cycle Cost Analysis
Life cycle costs and benefits were evaluated for aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) and dam-reservoir alternatives for one community in central Texas. The analysis included initial capital, replacement, rehabilitation, operation and maintenance, and salvage costs for the alternatives over the 50-year useful life period. Calculation of present value of costs and benefits points to lower capital and life cycle costs for the ASR alternative, potentially making it more affordable. ASR had reduced inflation vulnerability due to significantly less structural and land requirements and was over six times more cost-effective in storing and delivering equivalent water supply.
