The Synthesis of 3-(3-(Benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-5-ylmethyl)ureido)benzoic Acid

This study reports the synthesis of two new compounds, methyl 3-(3-(benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-5-ylmethyl)ureido)benzoate and 3-(3-(benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-5-ylmethyl)ureido)benzoic acid, prepared via the addition of an amine to an isocyanate to generate the corresponding urea, followed by the base hydrolysis of the ester. Both compounds were characterized by melting point determination, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and HRMS. Methyl 3-(3-(benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-5-ylmethyl)ureido)benzoate was additionally characterized by CHN elemental analysis.
