Enhancing supervision through supervisee contributions

Supervision is central to counselor training; however, substantial scholarly work emphasizes supervisor-led work, leaving supervisees’ contributions underexplored. This study explores supervisees’ perspectives on behaviors that enhance supervision. Using concept mapping, a structured, participatory research method, the perspectives of 16 counseling supervisees were analyzed. Findings highlight four areas, including documentation and administrative tasks, disposition, working alliance and processing, and clinical learning and development. Implications for counselor education programs, supervision practices, and future research are discussed.
