Environmental Ethics : Challenges and Sustainable Solutions
Abstract Environment can be defined as a sum total of all the living and non-living elements and their effects that influence human life. Environmental ethics deal with issues related to the rights of individuals that are fundamental to life and well-being. Resource consumption patterns and the need for equitable utilization: It deals with how we utilize and distribute resources. Environmental issues can be defined as the harmful effects of human activities on the earth’s environment. Environmental issues include many types of human activities which cause pollution, waste disposal, climate change, global warming, greenhouse effect etc. Environmental studies is very important since it deals with the most mundane problems of life where each individual matters, like dealing with safe and clean drinking water, hygienic living conditions, clean and fresh air, fertile land, healthy food and sustainable development. If we want to live in a clean, healthy, aesthetically beautiful, safe and secure environment for a long time and wish to hand over a clean and safe earth to our children, it is most essential to understand the basics of environment. Environmental ethics is a field of study that seeks to understand humans’ moral obligations to protect and preserve the environment. It is a branch of ethics that recognizes the intrinsic value of nature, the interconnection of all living things, and the responsibility of humans to act in accordance with ethical principles. This paper examines key issues in environmental ethics and proposes potential solution.
