Status of green hydrogen generation in India: A review

The hydrogen molecule is increasingly viewed as a key clean energy carrier for solving the dual global problems of climate change and energy security. Past developments have probed the possibility of using wind and solar power sources and their hybrids to make green hydrogen in large quantities, with an emphasis on technical and financial evaluation. This paper provides an overview of the production of green hydrogen from standalone and hybrid renewable energy sources in India. It also examines major commercialization barriers and opportunities in the country. Green hydrogen holds great promise for India, in line with the goals of Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG-7). Based on its abundant renewable resources and policy leadership, India is going to be one of the world leaders in green hydrogen and its derivatives, enabling deep decarbonization in steel, cement, refining, fertilizers, and heavy transport sectors.
