Two New Species of Phellodon (Thelephorales) From Southwest China
Phellodon is a genus of ectomycorrhizal fungi that plays important ecological roles and has ecological values. In this study, two new species of Phellodon , P. concrescens and P. melanopus , are described from Southwestern China based on morphological evidences and phylogenetic analyses. Phylogenetic analyses based on the internal transcribed spacers and the large subunit of the nuclear ribosomal RNA sequences showed that the two species formed distinct lineages within Phellodon . Morphologically, Phellodon concrescens is characterized by its concrescent and eccentrically stipitate basidiomata, azonate pileus, fibrillose to tomentose stipe, and subglobose to globose basidiospores measuring 4–4.5 × 3.5–4 µm. Phellodon melanopus is characterized by its grayish brown and azonate‐to‐zonate pileus, the white pileal margin, the black stipe, and the subglobose‐to‐globose basidiospores measuring 3.5–4.5 × 3–4.5 µm. Illustrated descriptions and a phylogenetic tree are provided to clarify the taxonomic placement of the new species.
