A sustainable solar water heating using integration of quality function deployment
India’s energy policies promote the adoption of domestic solar water heaters as part of its strategy to achieve sustainable development goals. By replacing conventional geysers, solar systems offer a cost-effective and energy-efficient solution that supports climate change mitigation. The study introduces a dual absorber solar water heater that integrates a flat plate and evacuated tube design. Using Quality Function Deployment (QFD), the product was developed to address customer needs, offering features such as leakage protection, durability, and compactness. The model achieves 75% efficiency and supports a 300-litre capacity, outperforming conventional systems and aligning with India’s sustainability targets. QFD provides a structured approach to designing efficient solar water heaters. Incorporating user and expert feedback enables performance improvements, with potential for future enhancements through integration with other renewable energy sources.
