Workplace Health Promotion Practices in Brazilian Companies: Initial Findings From the Brazilian Version of the CDC Worksite Health ScoreCard
Objective: To describe the initial application of the Brazilian version of the CDC Worksite Health ScoreCard (WHSC) among companies in southern Brazil. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2023. Representatives from 230 companies were invited to complete the Brazilian WHSC (154 items, 18 domains). Organizational characteristics and WHSC scores were analyzed descriptively. Results: Fifty-seven companies participated (24.8% response rate). The mean WHSC score was 119.1 (40.5% of the maximum score). Highest scores were observed for Occupational Safety and Health (78.9%), Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (58.6%), and Organizational Supports (56.4%). Lowest scores were found for Nutrition (18.8%), Sleep and Fatigue (21.1%), High Cholesterol (27.7%), and Tobacco Use (28.3%). Conclusions: The Brazilian WHSC identified important gaps in workplace health promotion and supports organizational assessment, benchmarking, and planning of evidence-based health promotion initiatives.
