Mathematical Basics for Mathematical Statistics

This handbook provides a review of mathematical basics needed to succeed in undergraduate-level introductory mathematical statistics courses, such as the STAT 3100-3101 sequence at the University of Iowa. All of the topics are ones that students are expected to have learned (or at least been taught) previously but perhaps were forgotten or never really mastered in the first place. The topics range from very elementary (properties of addition and multiplication, for example), to moderate (properties of exponents and logarithms), to more advanced (differentiation and integration). These topics are presented in 14 chapters, most of which include definitions, properties, and examples. Each chapter ends with one or more exercises to allow students to test their knowledge and practice their skills.
