V6 Update Summary: All multidisciplinary systematic empirical evidence throughout the text converges on the same conclusion: Xi Yin Yu Shi possesses a civilizational value and civilizational rarity comparable to that of the lost original of Wang Xizhi’s Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion (Lantingji Xu) from the Eastern Jin dynasty. This version formally establishes the final conclusion: the unique surviving copy of Xi Yin Yu Shi, authored by Geng Zhaozhong, is the copy once collected by Zhu Yizun and used by Cao Xueqin as his source. It is the book studied and read aloud by the ladies of the inner chambers—the very ladies Cao Xueqin cherished in “Fengchen Huai Guixiu” (“In the Dust, I Remember the Fair Ladies”)—at the elegant gathering in the Grand View Garden of the Jia household. And it is the unique copy now held in Taipei. New in V6: Newly added Section Ten: A Study of the “Reading from the Book While Calling the Game” Prototype of the Ladies of the Inner Chambers, demonstrating that in Chapter 40, at the domino gathering in the Grand View Garden, no physical dominoes appear on the scene; what Yuanyang holds is Xi Yin Yu Shi, and she calls the game by reading from the book. Newly added: 105 core facts, background facts, and evidentiary lists, each item verifiable. Newly added a special argument: “Why It Can Be Compared to the Lost Original of Wang Xizhi’s Lantingji Xu.” Newly added “Sufficient to Support, Impossible to Deny”: A Special Argument in Forty-One Questions, placing the civilizational value positioning at the forefront. This version incorporates the core content of previous versions, including: Establishing Xi Yin Yu Shi as a world-class treasure of civilization and its status as the “ur-text.” Adding the global distribution of the 135 ancient paintings and calligraphies Geng Zhaozhong protected, many of which are among the signature treasures of the world’s major museums, as independent evidence for the intrinsic artifact value of Xi Yin Yu Shi. “Only One Copy in the World”: a special argument that locks down, layer by layer, the uniqueness of Xi Yin Yu Shi—from the Kangxi Emperor’s tacit approval, to Zhu Yizun’s collection, to Cao Xueqin’s use as source, to its study by the real-life prototypes of the ladies of the inner chambers. “The person enters history, the book exits history”: an argument on institutional invisibility, explaining the political logic behind the collective silence of the early Qing elite concerning Xi Yin Yu Shi. Formally proposing the multidisciplinary systematic empirical convergence method as the methodological foundation for all evidence chains in the first half, etc. In the digital age, a world-class treasure hidden in the vast sea of Chinese civilization’s books; its value should be confirmed as soon as possible. Abstract For nearly three centuries, the creative mechanism of Dream of the Red Chamber has remained a central enigma in Chinese literary studies. Through a cumulative argument combining textual criticism and internal textual evidence, this study discovers and systematically demonstrates for the first time that Xi Yin Yu Shi, authored by the early Qing connoisseur Geng Zhaozhong (1640–1686), is the long-lost core source text and creative blueprint of Dream of the Red Chamber. Geng Zhaozhong’s sole surviving work had never been the subject of academic study for over three hundred years. This paper fills that scholarly void. As the first systematic study of this text, it reveals its major civilizational-historical value. For the first time, it: establishes the systematic connection between Xi Yin Yu Shi and Chapter 40 of Dream of the Red Chamber; repositions Geng Zhaozhong as a preeminent connoisseur of painting and calligraphy in the early Qing dynasty; demonstrates the text’s unique status in the history of Chinese bibliography and print craftsmanship; reconstructs the transmission chain from Geng Zhaozhong through Zhu Yizun and Cao Yin to Cao Xueqin; and shows that it simultaneously satisfies three conditions: core source text of a world literary masterpiece, sole surviving copy in the world, and extant material artifact. The study confirms 135 extant works bearing Geng Zhaozhong’s seals in public museums worldwide, including 107 paintings from the Yuan dynasty or earlier. These include masterpieces such as Wang Xizhi’s Yuanhuan Tie, Guo Xi’s Early Spring, and Han Gan’s Night-Shining White. Among mainland Chinese public collections, 40 are Class-1 cultural relics, 3 of which are permanently prohibited from export. It constructs a full-scale evidence chain spanning seven dimensions—textual fingerprint, systematic correspondence, rule internalization, logical paradox, macroscopic architecture, Zhiyanzhai’s internal evidence, and historical silence—comprising 105 core facts, eleven layers of argument, and forty-one questions. At the micro level, it confirms the textual fingerprint of “日邊紅杏倚雲栽” and the graphological isomorphism of the character “牌.” At the meso level, it reveals the complete physical structural correspondence and mathematical homology of the seven domino sets, and demonstrates the full conformity of the drinking-game verses to the generative rules in Se Yang Ze Li. At the macro level, it demonstrates the systematic transcoding from the “Twelve Golden Men” to the “Twelve Beauties of Jinling.” At the logical level, the internal rule consensus and error diagnosis rule out independent invention. A concentrated “genesis site” (pp. 13–29) contains decisive elements in unprecedented density. V6 adds Section Ten, “Reading from the Book While Calling the Game,” demonstrating that in the Grand View Garden gathering no physical dominoes appear on the scene; Yuanyang holds Xi Yin Yu Shi and calls the game by reading from it. It also adds 105 verifiable facts, a special argument comparing its value to the lost original of Wang Xizhi’s Lantingji Xu, and a forty-one-question argument, “Sufficient to Support, Impossible to Deny.” The study advances three theoretical propositions: first, a “civilizational symbol transcoding” mechanism; second, the foundation of “Civilizational Generatics”; third, the repositioning of Xi Yin Yu Shi as an irreproducible civilizational artifact and generative model of aesthetics. All evidence converges on the conclusion that Xi Yin Yu Shi possesses a civilizational value and rarity comparable to the lost original of Wang Xizhi’s Lantingji Xu. It is the copy collected by Zhu Yizun, used by Cao Xueqin, studied by the real-life prototypes of the inner-chamber ladies, and now held in Taipei.
