Transformative journey: A qualitative exploration of the underlying processes of yoga practice
The practice of yoga has been demonstrated as a positive influence on both physical and psychological health. However, there is still much to be learned about the underlying processes of yoga and how it impacts the lives of practitioners. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct an in-depth exploration of these processes, capturing yoga practitioners' lived experiences. Through an online qualitative survey and reflexive thematic analysis grounded in philosophical constructivism, this research reveals a transformative process experienced by individuals who practice yoga. The results suggest that yoga promotes holistic health and well-being, encourages self-compassion towards oneself and others, and can even help alleviate feelings of loneliness. These findings highlight the many ways in which yoga can positively impact mental health and social connection. Further investigation is necessary to fully understand how the different disciplines of yoga enhance well-being and to develop effective interventions.
