Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing of Bacteria Associated with Cancer Patients Against Some Antibiotics.

This immunosuppression, however, is not only a consequence of the antitumour treatments but it also very frequently leads to one of the most serious complications in these patients: opportunistic infections. Rapid identification of bacteria and antibiotic susceptibility patterns can help to optimize treatment strategies and ultimately decrease mortality .To isolate and identify bacteria from four clinical sources (blood, urine, oral cavity, and respiratory tract) in cancer patients at Al-Ramadi Oncology Hospital during the interval September 2025–April 2026, as part of susceptibility patterns to ten antibiotics using CLSI M100 standards 36th edition,2026.The study was carried out on 200 cancer patients (69 males/131 females) and a total of this was 210 bacterial isolates isolated from the four sites. Classical methods and automated systems were used for diagnosis, and susceptibility used disk diffusion method according to CLSI 2026.210 isolates were donated from four sites: urine 56 (26.7%), respiratory tract 57 (27.1%), oral cavity 51 (24.3%) and blood 46 (21.9%). The Enterobacter cloacae complex was most frequently identified from the specimens 19 strains [9.0%] and were resistant to Cefixime and Ciprofloxacin but still susceptible to Meropenem (an injectable carbapenem antibiotic). Cefixime and Piperacillin/Tazobactam led to multidrug resistance of Klebsiella pneumoniae but Amikacin remained sensitive. Trained on data up to October 2023, Results Gram-positive staphylococci were highly susceptible to fluoroquinolones (all S), while large inhibition zone diameters were obtained for aminoglycosides as epidemiological cut-off values.

Abstract

The Enterobacter cloacae complex was most frequently identified from the specimens 19 strains [9.0%] and were resistant to Cefixime and Ciprofloxacin but still susceptible to Meropenem (an injectable carbapenem antibiotic).
