Data Journals Dashboard: An open-source web platform for community-curated data journal metadata built with Python, Hugo and GitHub Actions
The Data Journals Dashboard (DJD) is an open-source web platform for exploring community-curated metadata on data journals. It combines bibliographic core metadata originally published by Kindling and Strecker in 2022 [Zenodo] with additional metadata from the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), enriched through a semi-automated AI-assisted workflow for journals not covered by DOAJ's API service. Built with Python for data collection and processing, and Hugo for static site generation, the dashboard is automatically built and deployed via GitHub Actions and Pages. It offers researchers, RDM professionals, and librarians searchable, filterable access to data journals by keyword, research field, and licensing type, supporting data sharing practices in line with FAIR and CARE principles. The underlying metadata schema and collection are licensed CC0 1.0 Universal and can be extended through community contributions.
