Giftedness in the Age of AI: A Transformational Proposal for Replacing a Model That is Becoming Triple O—Old, Outdated, and Obsolete

This article reviews the nature of giftedness in the Age of AI. It argues that the traditional model of giftedness is becoming obsolete. Quite simply, AI can perform better than do humans—often much better--many of the tasks that have historically been used to identify and develop giftedness. Moreover, the traditional model of giftedness has led to divisions in society that in turn have led to the spread of a form of populism that has been damaging to societies around the world. It is proposed that a model of transformational giftedness—giftedness that creates a better world--now more than ever, should dominate our thinking about giftedness, not a model of transactional giftedness whereby the individuals so identified use their gifts primarily for their own personal gain.
