Molecular Systematics of the Genus Portulaca L. (Portulacaceae) in India

ABSTRACT In India, the genus Portulaca L. (Portulacaceae) is represented by 12 species. Based on the morphological and molecular data, the taxonomic identity of Portulaca suffruticosa Wight and Arn. and the reinstatement of P. laljii P. Sivaramakrishna and P. Yugandhar have been discussed along with a taxonomic description. Distribution maps and a key to species have been provided. This study not only helps resolve the long‐standing ambiguity surrounding their identity but also facilitates precise identification for future research.
