Silver Nitrate‐Doped Soft Silicone Foam Dressing for Skin Wound Healing

ABSTRACT Soft silicone dressings have been on the market for more than a decade. They were created to protect the skin around the wound, reduce pain and stress during dressing changes, and enhance comfort while being worn. Silver nitrate (SN)‐doped silicone foam was successfully fabricated by mixing silicone solution with the SN solution. SEM results proved successful foam structures with interconnected cell morphologies. The addition of SN into the silicone foam increased the compression stress from 1.20 to 2.31 MPa. Biocompatibility tests were performed using human dermal fibroblast (HDF) cell lines, and results showed that the foams are non‐toxic and enhance cell viability. Antimicrobial tests were carried out against S. aureus , P. aeruginosa , and E. coli . The SN‐doped foams showed a strong inhibition effect against all three bacterial species. Swelling properties in in vitro conditions, and results showed that the SN‐doped silicone foams had the highest swelling ratio (205%).
