Precise Structure Control in Phase-Engineered Nanomaterials: The Case of Noble Metals
Abstract Phase-engineered noble-metal nanomaterials, distinguished by atomic arrangements distinct from those of their conventional counterparts, have emerged as promising materials with enhanced physicochemical properties for diverse applications. Despite the immense potential, it remains a challenge to achieve precise structure control. In this Perspective, we highlight representative advancements in the controlled synthesis of unconventional-phase noble-metal nanomaterials, focusing on recent breakthroughs in their precise structural regulation. Specifically, we examine progress in tailoring their morphology, phase ratio, and crystal lattice, alongside some rational synthetic strategies to fine-tune their nanoarchitectures and establish clearer structure–property correlations. Finally, we discuss current challenges and future opportunities in this rapidly evolving field, offering a forward-looking perspective on the precise structural engineering of phase-engineered noble-metal nanomaterials.
