China–Pakistan’s Growing Interest in the Indian Ocean: Unveiling Maritime Security Through the CPEC Project

The dynamic geopolitical landscape of the Indian Ocean has witnessed a significant shift with the emergence of China and Pakistan as active players in the region. Both China and Pakistan are focused on deepening maritime security cooperation to advance their interests in the Indian Ocean with an aim to counter growing India’s influence in the region. Moreover, the China–Pakistan Economic Cooperation (CPEC) Project offers an ideal opportunity for both countries to enhance their partnership in maritime security. This article analyses China’s and Pakistan’s interests in the Indian Ocean and the significance of bilateral maritime security cooperation to both nations. The article also analyses how Chinese military and technical assistance to the Pakistan Navy augments Pakistan’s role in the Indian Ocean.
