Circularly Polarized Delayed Room Temperature Phosphorescence from Chiral Naphthalimide Derivative‐Doped Films for High‐Level Data Encryption

ABSTRACT Circularly polarized delayed room temperature phosphorescence (CP‐DRTP) materials combine circularly polarized luminescence, long emission lifetime, and delayed luminescence characteristics, making them promising candidates for high‐level data encryption and 3D light‐emitting devices. However, integrating multiple luminescent properties into a single molecule remains a challenge. In this work, a pair of enantiomers (R/S‐NH‐ t BuNAI) were designed by modifying a naphthalimide core with chiral R/S‐α‐phenylethylamine groups. Under ambient conditions, R/S‐NH‐ t BuNAI@PMMA films exhibit photoactivated delayed room temperature phosphorescence behavior. Specifically, the room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) emission after UV light activation does not appear immediately; instead, the phosphorescence signal is observed approximately 20 ms after the UV lamp is turned off. Moreover, the films show photoluminescence quantum yields as high as 79.04% (R‐enantiomer) and 75.91% (S‐enantiomer), and the orange RTP persists for about 400 ms after photoactivation. In addition, the R/S‐NH‐ t BuNAI@PMMA films display circularly polarized luminescence with the luminescence dissymmetry factors of +2.58 × 10 −3 and −2.16 × 10 −3 for the R and S enantiomers, respectively, owing to the efficient chiral transfer from the chiral group to the chromophore. This study offers a feasible molecular design strategy for developing multifunctional organic RTP materials toward high‐level data encryption.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Circularly polarized delayed room temperature phosphorescence (CP‐DRTP) materials combine circularly polarized luminescence, long emission lifetime, and delayed luminescence characteristics, making them promising candidates for high‐level data encryption and 3D light‐emitting devices. However, integrating multiple luminescent properties into a single molecule remains a challenge.
